Risky Conversations with Jamie Lee

Doing the Work of Byron Katie about the Summer I was Homeless

Jamie Lee Episode 82

As the year comes to a close, many of us find ourselves being unusually hard on ourselves. The “itty-bitty-shitty committee” in our minds grows louder, fueled by the pressure of the year-end. We take stock of the past twelve months and too often hold them against ourselves like a harsh jury.

For some, the holidays — the Christmas season — can feel particularly challenging, especially if the memories associated with this time aren’t the happiest. It’s a season that often drags us back into childhood, stirring up complicated emotions.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing a deeply personal story of how I’ve learned to rewrite stories about a time I was once homeless, the profound impact of Byron Katie’s teachings, and what's possible when you turn these stories around.

If you’re feeling the weight of the year or the pull of old memories, this one’s for you. Let’s dive in.
